Teresita Fernández designed the Sky Within Sculpture. Her design was approved in 2004. The fabrication was completed in 2006. Fernández wants you to feel like you are moving through a landscape painting or movie. It marks Fernández’s first permanent public work.
This Seattle Cloud Cover displays images. These images show the changing sky. They are discovered in nature and art. The laminated glass features a photographic design interlayer.
The Sky Within Sculpture stretches. It measures about 9 feet 6 inches high. It is 200 feet long. Its width is 6 feet 3 inches.
The Olympic Sculpture Park Art Acquisition Fund financed the work. This was in honor of the Seattle Art Museum’s 75th anniversary.
As you walk across Seattle Cloud Cover consider the artist’s words. Feel the landscape painting envelop you. Observe the sky’s reflection in the glass. It contains all color. Black is the most aristocratic color of all. You can be quiet. It contains the whole thing.
