Could a building resemble a glacier? Here at Sky 56, the answer is a resounding yes. Sky 56 isn’t just another office building in Lyon’s Part-Dieu district. Its architects, Chaix & Morel et Associés and AFAA Architecture, envisioned a structure that echoes the jagged peaks of the Alps. The four setbacks in the building’s design create distinct volumes, like sections of a glacier, each with its own movement and identity. Sky 56’s unique silhouette is further emphasized by the vertical screen printing on its facade. This intricate detail enhances the kinetic effect of the four volumes, making the tower appear slender despite its wide base and 56-meter height. The screen printing cleverly minimizes the appearance of horizontal elements like floor slabs, drawing attention to the building’s dynamic form. Sky 56 offers more than just striking aesthetics. Inside, it boasts 31,500 square meters of office space across 14 levels. The large, modular floor plates, each divisible into four entities, offer tenants flexibility in layout and future use. The building’s central core houses elevators, stairwells, and services, optimizing space and allowing daylight to penetrate deep into the interior. Every office enjoys natural light, and the acoustic design ensures a comfortable environment despite the proximity of rail tracks. Sky 56 also boasts four terraces on each floor, providing occupants with exceptional views of the Lyon cityscape. Beyond its office spaces, Sky 56 contributes to the vibrancy of the Part-Dieu district with a two-level plinth housing a variety of amenities. These include a restaurant, business center, nursery, health club, shops, and a rooftop deck for events. The design encourages interaction and exchange, blurring the lines between public and private spaces. Sky 56’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its double certification – BREEAM and HQE Excellent – and its status as the first French high-rise building to achieve Well Certification. This focus on the well-being and health of its occupants sets Sky 56 apart. Even its construction was high-tech, employing Lean management methods for efficiency and worker well-being.
