It was a celebration of Texas’s history under the six flags of Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the United States, and the Confederate States of America. Originally, Wynne wanted to name the park “Texas Under Six Flags”. The name was changed to Six Flags Over Texas, possibly due to the influence of his wife, Joann, or perhaps his entertainment director.
