Did you know that the Sikh Society of Minnesota actually started in people’s homes? It’s true! Back in the early 1980s, a small group of Sikh families, maybe five or ten at most, began gathering in their homes to worship together. Imagine them, these families, bringing the Guru Granth Sahib, their holy book, to each other’s houses, sharing meals and celebrating festivals. As their numbers grew, the need for a dedicated space became clear. Their first Gurdwara, their place of worship, was established in Fridley, MN. This served them well for a time, providing a spiritual home for fifty to one hundred families. But the Sikh Society of Minnesota continued to grow. Eventually, they found a new home in Bloomington, MN. They transformed a former church into the beautiful Gurdwara you see today, a testament to their dedication and a welcoming beacon for the 400-500 families it now serves. The Sikh Society of Minnesota’s journey from those early gatherings to this place of worship is a reminder of the power of faith and community.
