Siena College opened its doors in 1940 as Siena Convent. It was a significant expansion from the primary school established by Dominican Sisters 14 years prior. The college started with a modest enrollment of just 15 students. The Dominican influence runs deep here. Siena College is named after Siena, Italy, the hometown of Saint Catherine of Siena. This 14th-century Dominican mystic was known for her charitable works, her gift of discernment and prayer, and her diplomatic skills. She played a vital role in the history of Italy and the Church. Today, Siena College carries her legacy forward, empowering young women to be critical thinkers and compassionate leaders.
