Founded in 1952 Shoreline Christian School has a rich history. It began as Calvin Christian School. Then it was renamed Watson Groen Christian School. This honored Reverend Watson Groen. He played a key role in the school’s founding. He sadly passed away that same year. The school initially housed students in grades 1-8. Classes were even held in the Long family’s home. Imagine the intimate atmosphere.
The first school building with two classrooms was built in 1953. This was at the current school’s address. Growth was steady. By 1958 the first high school class graduated. Enrollment reached 108 students. Kindergarten was added in 1965. A new high school building followed in 1967. A gymnasium was dedicated in 1977. The school colors green and white were chosen by the student body in 1959. These are still used today.
Shoreline Christian School received accreditation in 1996. This was from the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. The school’s name officially changed to Shoreline Christian School in 1997. This reflected its mission and connection to the community. The gymnasium was rededicated as the Watson Groen Memorial Gymnasium. The school continues to thrive. It serves students from preschool through 12th grade. It offers academics arts athletics and service opportunities. Shoreline Christian School continues to be a cornerstone of the Shoreline community. It remains true to its Christian roots. It fosters the development of each student’s unique gifts.
