The original Shopping Sendas stood on this very spot before it was demolished. That earlier shopping center began construction in 1981. It was anchored by a Sendas group wholesale store.
The Shopping Grande Rio wasn’t just built it evolved. In 2013 a major expansion added a new deck parking. This provided 500 more parking spaces. New additions included Rio Poupa Tempo Kalunga and Beleza Natural. Two major anchors C&A and Lojas Americanas joined the mix. The Leader store expanded significantly its area growing from 1100 square meters to a spacious 1900 square meters. Casa & Video and a gourmet food court featuring Pizza Point Chopp da Brahma and Boteco do Manolo also opened their doors.
Today more than 250 stores and nearly 2300 parking spaces cater to a massive clientele. This shopping center has seen a huge influx of customers. In one particular weekend at the end of 2010 over 200000 people visited the mall.
