Founded in November 1884 Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church began with a vision. Reverend Sutton E Griggs Reverend Keen and Reverend John Coleman were its founding fathers. Joseph Klepper generously donated the land. Reverend John Coleman became Shiloh’s first pastor.
In 1908 Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church erected a building for its growing congregation. The Northwest Association of Baptist Churches formed around the same time. Shiloh joined this association and A S Drake of Shiloh became its secretary. The association expanded later and changed its name. It became The Galilee Griggs Memorial Association. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church still holds membership in this organization.
Six pastors followed Rev Stewart each contributing to Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. They were Rev Hartman Rev G B Williams and others. In 1918 the original church building was erected during Rev Russell’s time. Rev Menorgan succeeded Rev Russell. He continued the spiritual journey. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church grew stronger. It continued its physical development. In 1952 the church added a kitchen a dining room a pastor’s study and a choir room.
The first worship service was held in the new space in November 1964. This was under the leadership of Rev L H Harper. After 44 years of service Rev Harper retired in 1966. Rev C S Trimble took over. He served for 27 years. Rev Trimble served as Second Vice-Moderator and First Vice Moderator of The Galilee Griggs Association. He served as Moderator from 1993 until he passed in 1994. In 1995 Rev Isiah Joshua Jr became the pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Under Pastor Joshua’s leadership Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church revisited plans. These plans were to rebuild a new Worship Center. The center would include classrooms fellowship space and new ministries. The church launched the United We Build program. The key idea was “Not Equal Giving but Equal Sacrifice”. On April 25 1999 Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church held the groundbreaking ceremony. On June 3 2001 the first service was held in the new sanctuary. It was located at 920 14th Street. After 117 years Shiloh remained true to its vision.
As a visionary Pastor Reverend Isiah Joshua Jr continues to lead. The Pantry “His Extended Hands” helps those in need. The AWANA ministry started in 2005. Its mission is to teach children and youth about Christ. The Children’s Church became a reality in July 2006. New ministries continue to emerge at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
