Take a moment to appreciate this grand building. Standing proudly on Sheridan Road, the Sheil Catholic Center is a beacon of faith and community in the heart of Evanston. Founded by Bishop Bernard Sheil, the center has been a mainstay for Northwestern University students and the surrounding community for over 80 years. It’s a place where students can find spiritual guidance, connect with peers, and explore their faith. Bishop Sheil was a true social justice advocate who was known for his work with underprivileged youth and marginalized communities. Back in the 1930s, while serving as chaplain at the Cook County Jail, he was inspired to start the Catholic Youth Organization. The center has a rich history of providing a haven for students to find their spiritual home. It’s a place where they can grow in their faith, find support, and build lifelong relationships.
