Opened in 2018, Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park isn’t just another theme park. It’s a sprawling 73-acre testament to marine life, thrilling rides, and immersive experiences. Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park is more than just a collection of attractions. It’s a carefully crafted experience, split into two distinct worlds. One half plunges you into the icy beauty of a tundra landscape, complete with a snow-capped mountain. The other half transports you to a vibrant tropical environment, dominated by a dramatic volcano. Connecting these two contrasting worlds is a gondola lift and two pedestrian bridges spanning a picturesque canal. Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park boasts a unique duality. It offers both the thrill of cutting-edge rides, like its record-breaking Lava Drifting rapids ride and launch roller coaster, and the wonder of close encounters with marine life, including a spectacular killer whale exhibit and show. The park’s creation is a story of ambition and competition. Haichang Ocean Park Holdings, aiming to rival Shanghai Disneyland, invested over $700 million in this ambitious project. The park’s location in Shanghai’s Pudong district, near Dishui Lake, wasn’t the original plan. Initially envisioned on the east side of the lake, it eventually shifted to the west side, requiring a redesign by Legacy Entertainment. This change in location highlights the meticulous planning and adaptability behind Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park’s development. The park also features five distinct themed areas. They are Mermaid Bay, Polar Town, Ice and Snow Kingdom, Undersea Wonder, and Ocean Tribe. These areas offer a diverse range of experiences. Visitors can witness six star shows, experience ten amusement facilities, and explore six animal exhibition halls. Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park even showcases cultural performances like the “Blue Star Fleet: Sea and Land Mecha Parade,” adding another layer of entertainment to this already vibrant destination. It truly lives up to its slogan: “More Than a Theme Park Because We Care.”
