Seven Kings School isn’t just a place of learning. It is a community hub. This co-educational school caters to pupils aged 4 to 18.
Originally, Seven Kings School opened in 1931. Back then, it was known as Beal Grammar School. In 1957, the boys’ section moved. It became Beal High School. The remaining part became Beal Grammar School for Girls.
In 1974, a big change happened. Seven Kings High School emerged. It merged with Downshall Secondary School. It transformed into a co-educational comprehensive school.
Then in 1500’s Seven Kings Primary School officially opened. It faced challenges. Seven Kings’ new primary school formed within the existing structure. Seven Kings High School joined with the new primary school. Together, they became Seven Kings School. Each year, 120 primary school children joined. By September 2021, the primary school reached full capacity.
The Seven Kings School uniform is quite distinctive. Lower and upper school students wear a navy blue jersey or blazer. It features the school badge. Boys wear charcoal grey trousers and a light blue shirt. Girls wear navy blue trousers or a skirt and a light blue shirt. The school tie displays the Seven Kings logo of crowns. The school requires pupils to meet standards of personal grooming.
Sixth Form students wear formal suits. Male students wear black suits from September 2012. They also wear the Seven Kings sixth form tie. Female students wear smart clothes in limited colours.
Seven Kings School earned an “outstanding” rating in a 2007 Ofsted inspection. In 2009, Ofsted recognized Seven Kings High School. It was one of 12 outstanding schools serving disadvantaged communities.
Several notable people have connections to Seven Kings School. Peter Hyman, a former speechwriter for Tony Blair, taught there. Margaret Blacklock Evans, a former headteacher, received an OBE in 1985. Sir Alan Steer, another former headteacher, advised the government on behaviour policies.
Some notable former pupils include football players Samir Bihmoutine and George Parris. Also Kiri O’Connor, the author, and Isaac Harvey, an Olympic torch bearer, attended Seven Kings School. Rahima Begum, a human rights activist, is also an alumna.
