You might think a garden is just a garden. But, imagine a place where your senses are awakened. This is the Sensory Garden in Victoria Park. It’s a special place, designed to engage all your senses. Peggy Dowling, a member of the Barnet Borough Sight-Impaired Group, left a legacy to make it happen.
The Sensory Garden embraces the power of nature to soothe and stimulate. The plants here are chosen for their scents, sounds, and textures. Lavender fills the air with its sweet fragrance. Bamboo rustles in the breeze, creating a soothing, calming sound. The garden also features plants that attract bees, butterflies, and moths. You can hear the buzzing of bees and the fluttering of wings.
The garden is divided into different zones, each focusing on a particular sense. One zone is dedicated to sight, showcasing vibrant flowers and colorful foliage. Another is for scent, with fragrant herbs and blossoms. Then there’s a zone for touch, featuring plants with unique textures. You can run your fingers across the velvety leaves of sage or the prickly needles of a conifer. The garden invites you to explore and engage with nature in a whole new way.
So, take a moment to wander through this space, letting your senses guide you. Listen to the birds singing, smell the sweet aroma of the flowers, feel the texture of the leaves, and let the beauty of the Sensory Garden enrich your experience.
