Seng Kang Secondary School was established on January 4 1999. It holds the distinction of being the first secondary school in the Sengkang housing estate. Did you know that “Seng Kang” in Chinese means “Success and Good Health”? The name itself embodies the aspirations for its students.

Initially, Seng Kang Secondary School was located at the former Hai Sing Girls’ High. This was at 1192 Upper Serangoon Road. Later, on March 12 1999, the school moved to its present site here at 10 Compassvale Lane.

Mr. Lee Yock Suan officially opened Seng Kang Secondary School on July 14 2001. He was the Minister for Information and the Arts then. In 2002, the school’s Red Cross Unit earned its first Unit Silver Award.

The school attained the Ministry of Education Value-Added Academic Award in 2003. A significant milestone was achieved in 2005. The school’s Hockey ‘C’ Division boys’ team emerged as national champions. It was the school’s first national sports title. Also in 2005, one of the school’s Girl Guides attained the President’s Guide Award. This is the highest honour for Girl Guides.

Seng Kang Secondary School gained niche status in hockey in 2009. The school became one of the few to offer Physical Education as an O-Level subject in 2011. In 2015, Seng Kang Secondary School launched its Learning for Life Programme. It is called ‘Building Character through Physical Education and Sports’. The Applied Learning Programme in health science and technology followed in 2016.

Seng Kang Secondary School celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2018. The school achieved three Singapore records that year. These were for the largest display of paper sailboats, the largest mass tabata display, and the most number of push balls kept in the air. The SKSS Heritage Gallery was created in 2018. It outlines the school’s 20 years of development and breakthroughs. This gallery enhances school pride.

The Sengkang Heritage Gallery was set up in 2019. It extends greater community meaning and national identity. Two students received the Lee Kuan Yew All Round Excellence Awards in 2021.

The Performing Arts CCAs achieved Distinction awards at the Singapore Youth Festival in 2021. These CCAs included Guzheng Ensemble, Modern Dance, Choir, Symphonic Band, and English Drama.

Seng Kang Secondary School offers a range of Co-Curricular Activities. These include sports like badminton, basketball, football, hockey, and netball. There are also uniformed groups such as Girl Guides and the National Police Cadet Corps. The school also provides academic-related activities.

Seng Kang Secondary School accepts entry via Direct School Admission. This is through talent areas like badminton, basketball, football, hockey, and netball. The school also provides barrier-free accessibility.

Mdm Ng Shok Yan served as principal from 1999 to 2004. Mr. Leong Kok Kee was principal from 2005 to 2010. Mdm Oen Siew Yock served from 2011 to 2016. Mr. Koh Yiak Kheng was principal from 2017 to 2022. Mr. N Sivarajan is the current principal since 2023.

The school motto is “Breakthrough”. The anchor in the school crest represents the Sengkang district. It signifies the school’s determination to anchor to its beliefs. The rope symbolizes teamwork and continuous learning. Together, the anchor and rope form the initials ‘SKSS’.
