Seven visionaries. A shared dream. The Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Bali’s story began in 2000. Seven individuals, including I Gede Widjana and Drs. I Nyoman Gede Astina, M.Pd, laid the foundation for what would become a prominent institution. They established the Yayasan Dharma Widya Ulangun, the cornerstone upon which the Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Bali (The Bali Hotel School), or SPB, was built. Initially, SPB offered middle-level training programs. The founders envisioned a future expansion to upper-level programs, eventually leading to specialized diplomas and even higher educational opportunities. Beyond formal education, they also introduced short courses. These courses focused on cruise ship training, partnering with PPTKIS Bali Duta Mandiri Denpasar to equip individuals with the skills needed for the maritime industry. June 3rd, 2000, marked a significant milestone. On this day, coinciding with Tumpek Landep, a Balinese holy day, SPB was officially inaugurated. A traditional Mecaru and Melaspas ceremony sanctified the campus grounds. This date became the official “birthday” of the Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Bali. Just a few months later, on August 21st, 2000, the first cohort of students began their journey. They embarked on the Pendidikan Dasar Sikap Profesi (PDSP), the foundational professional development program. The Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Bali’s evolution didn’t stop there. In 2008, it transformed into the Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Bali Internasional (STPBI). This marked a shift towards higher education. STPBI offered Diploma and Bachelor programs, a testament to the founders’ forward-thinking vision. The institution continued to grow. By 2020, with the addition of new business-focused programs, it underwent another transformation, becoming the Institut Pariwisata dan Bisnis Internasional (IPB Internasional). This expansion reflects the institution’s commitment to providing diverse educational pathways. The Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Bali, now IPB Internasional, stands as a testament to the power of vision, collaboration, and a dedication to providing quality education in the tourism and business sectors.
