Established in Bandung in 1955 the Sekolah Tinggi Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika STMKG boasts a rich history. Initially known as the Akademi Meteorologi dan Geofisika AMG it was housed within the prestigious Institut Teknologi Bandung ITB. A move to Jakarta in 1960 placed the AMG within the Lembaga Meteorologi dan Geofisika LMG. The institution’s name changed to Balai Pendidikan dan Latihan Meteorologi dan Geofisika BPLMG in 1978 under the Department of Transportation. It reverted to AMG in 2000 before its current name STMKG was adopted in 2014. This significant change followed the Presidential Regulation Number 35 of 2014. This cemented STMKG’s position under the Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika BMKG. The STMKG wasn’t always located where it is now. It moved several times across Jakarta and surrounding areas. Today the STMKG continues its important work training experts in meteorology climatology geophysics and instrumentation. The STMKG offers four diploma programs: Meteorology Climatology Geophysics and Instrumentation MKG. Graduates secure positions as civil servants within the BMKG serving across Indonesia.
