Here at Sekolah Polisi Wanita, history whispers from every corner. This is the Sekolah Polisi Wanita in Jakarta. It is more than just a school. It is a crucible where women are forged into officers ready to serve and protect.
The story of women in the Indonesian police force began long before this building existed. Back in 1948, a visionary step was taken in Bukittinggi, Sumatera. The National Police Branch opened its doors to women. Six brave women joined 44 male students in police inspector training. Sadly, this early initiative was cut short by the Dutch military aggression.
Fast forward to April 1963. The seventh Komdak Jaya of Polda Metro Jaya established the Ciputat branch of the Indonesian Police Force School. This Sekolah Anggota Kepolisian Republik Indonesia replaced the Kramat Jati branch. It marked a new chapter for police training.
In 1968, the Ciputat branch evolved into the Police Force and Training School 007 Ciputat. By 1975, it had transformed again into the Education and Training Depot 007 Ciputat. The years 1975 and 1976 marked a milestone. For the first time, Dodiklat 007 Ciputat trained female non-commissioned officers. In 1982, it became the Non-Commissioned Officer School 007 Ciputat. It was the first educational institution dedicated solely to training female police officers.
January 24, 1984 is a pivotal date for Sekolah Polisi Wanita. Leadership was handed over to Colonel Polisi Dra. P. Erda Latuasan Tarigan. This was formalized by the Chief of Police decree. The leadership change also brought a change in rank. The head went from Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel. January 24 is now celebrated as Sepolwan’s anniversary.
On October 30, 1984, Pusdik Polwan officially became Sekolah Polisi Wanita. It transitioned to the Directorate of Police Education. Previously, it had been under Kobangdiklat. Since 1992, Sekolah Polisi Wanita has been under the Police Education and Training Institute.
Many leaders have shaped Sekolah Polisi Wanita. These include Kolonel Pol. Dra. P. Erda Latuasan Tarigan in 1984. Then came Kombes Pol. Hj. Rumiah Kartoredjo, S.Pd. in 1999. Others include Kombes Pol. Dra. Agnes Supraptiningsih. Also Kombes Pol. Dra. Sri Handayani, M.H. from 2010 to 2014. Then there was Kombes Pol. Dra Henny J.A. Posumah, M.M. from 2018 to 2020.
