Established in 1958 as the Technical Institute Penang Sekolah Menengah Teknik Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra stands proudly. It initially shared premises with the Trade School along Batu Lanchang Lane. Imagine 53 students beginning their studies there. They pursued a three-year electrical engineering course. Later a condensed two-year program was introduced. By 1964 all courses were shortened to two years.
Sekolah Menengah Teknik Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra didn’t always have its current name. It was renamed to honor Malaysia’s first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. This reflects the school’s importance in national development.
The school has undergone significant growth. New hostels teachers’ quarters and a principal’s residence were constructed in 1996. A new school administrator’s office was built in 2007. These additions show the school’s dedication to providing a complete educational environment.
Today Sekolah Menengah Teknik Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra continues its legacy. It offers various technical courses. Civil Mechanical and Electrical Engineering are among its offerings.
