Established in 1874, Sekolah Kebangsaan Jelutong holds stories within its walls. Sekolah Kebangsaan Jelutong started its journey on Jalan Perak. The school was split into two sections. One part served boys. The other part accommodated girls. The girls’ school had four classrooms. The boys’ school had six. Each school had its own headmaster.

Initially, they were called Sekolah Lelaki Jelutong and Sekolah Perempuan Jelutong. Later, the names changed to Sekolah Melayu Jelutong. After independence, it became Sekolah Kebangsaan Jelutong. The name ‘Jelutong’ comes from the Jelutong trees. These trees were common in the Jelutong area back then.

Let’s explore how Sekolah Kebangsaan Jelutong evolved over the years. By 1970, a new building was needed. A new school was built on Jalan Jelutong near Jalan Kota Giam. This bigger school could take in more students. It featured 12 classrooms. It also had two teacher restrooms and two student restrooms. Encik Abdul Rahman bin Talib, the Minister of Education, officially opened the building.

In 1975, Sekolah Kebangsaan Jelutong celebrated its 100th anniversary. The school continued to expand. In 1994, an additional block was constructed. This block added eight classrooms and two restrooms. This allowed all students to attend school in one session.

Sekolah Kebangsaan Jelutong pioneered under the School Education Board. Later, it transitioned to the Board of Governors and PIBG. Dato’ Haji Mohamad Nor bin Ahmad, a former headmaster, received a national teacher award.
