“Did you know that Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Moh Ghee has two locations?” I ask you. One is along Perak Lane and the other is in Jelutong. We are standing in front of the Perak Lane campus today. This is known as Moh Ghee Main.
Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Moh Ghee is a Chinese-medium co-educational primary school. It has a rich history and plays a vital role in the community. Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Moh Ghee first opened in 1918. Local businessmen and community leaders provided the funding. It started as a small attap shed in Jelutong.
The Second World War interrupted the school’s operation. It was forced to close during the Japanese Occupation. After the war, many children in Jelutong needed education. The original site was too small. Local businessmen donated a new one-acre site along Perak Lane. The new school building was completed in August 1949.
With the completion of the new school, Moh Ghee split into two schools. The Perak Lane campus became Moh Ghee Main. The Jelutong campus became Moh Ghee Branch School.
