Have you ever seen a place so peaceful, so rustic, so seemingly untouched by the relentless march of time? Seidel Ranch Airport isn’t just an airport; it’s a glimpse into a bygone era. It’s a small, private airfield situated in Elroy, Texas, just northwest of Austin. The air is thick with the scent of wildflowers and the gentle hum of crickets. Seidel Ranch is a testament to the spirit of simple living, a place where the call of adventure echoes through the open skies. Seidel Ranch was built in the late 1940s by William G. Seidel. His family ranched in the area for over 100 years. Mr. Seidel wanted to provide a place for his family and friends to enjoy the thrill of flight. With his own hands, he constructed a small airstrip – a concrete ribbon cutting through the landscape like a pathway to the sky. Today, it is still owned and operated by the Seidel family. The airport has two runways running parallel to one another. The longer runway is used for larger planes and the shorter runway is used for smaller planes. The airport does not provide fuel, however, some local pilots like to refuel their planes here. The airfield is typically used by a few families, friends, and colleagues of the Seidel family. Despite its modest size and quiet demeanor, Seidel Ranch Airport plays a vital role in the community, bringing people together and reminding everyone of the simple pleasure of a good, old-fashioned flying adventure. It is a place where time seems to stand still and where the spirit of adventure thrives.
