Second Baptist Church of LaGrange

What if these walls could talk? The stories they would tell about the Second Baptist Church of LaGrange! This church has a history that goes back even further than its presence here. The Second Baptist Church of LaGrange’s roots go all the way back to 1895. It all began with a small group of believers gathering for services. These early meetings were held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nelson in nearby Hinsdale. Just a year later, this dedicated group officially established themselves as the First Baptist Church of Hinsdale. By 1912, the congregation had grown and they set their sights on La Grange. They laid the cornerstone for their first permanent home at 322 Franklin Avenue. This marked a new chapter and they adopted the name Second Baptist Church of La Grange. However, their story doesn’t end there. In 1960, the congregation celebrated a significant milestone. They proudly dedicated a new brick building at 26 Washington Avenue, which is where we stand today. And if those walls could talk, they would tell tales of the mortgage-burning ceremony held in 1978. This event was a testament to the dedication and growth of the Second Baptist Church of LaGrange. They have consistently served as a beacon of faith and community in La Grange.
