You might be surprised to learn that the Scouts et Guides de France, which you see before you, is actually a relatively new organization. It was formed in 2004 from the merger of two much older organizations: the Guides de France and the Scouts de France. The Guides de France was founded in 1923 and the Scouts de France was founded in 1920. The merger took place in part because both organizations recognized that the world was changing and that they needed to adapt. They wanted to create a more inclusive and welcoming organization that would be open to all young people, regardless of their gender, religion, or background. The Scouts et Guides de France is the largest scouting and guiding association in France, with over 90,000 members. The organization is active in the rebirth of scouting in Ukraine and Belarus and also helps strengthen scouting in French Polynesia. What many people do not know is that the headquarters of the Scouts et Guides de France is located in Chateau de Jambville which is about 50 km southwest of Paris. This chateau was acquired in 1952 and became the official headquarters of the Scouts de France. Today, it’s the national center of the association.
