The origins of engineering at UNAM trace back to the Real Seminar of Mining. This seminar trained young people. They were dedicated to mine exploitation. This evolved into the School of Engineering. It now offers thirteen bachelor’s degrees. Twelve are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Engineering Education. A Biomedical Systems Engineering program was recently approved.
UNAM’s School of Engineering is not just about classrooms. It includes impressive infrastructure. There are 25 buildings. These provide more than 90 thousand square meters of construction. There are 166 laboratories and workshops. Five libraries hold 530 thousand volumes.

In 1910, the school was renamed the National School of Engineering. Later, in 1954, it moved to Ciudad Universitaria. By 1959, it became the Faculty of Engineering. The School of Engineering has a Fundamental Science Division. This division teaches physics and mathematics.
