Each has its own unique story. They are Borsberg Cunnersdorf Eichbusch Eschdorf Gönsdorf Helfenberg Krieschendorf Malschendorf Pappritz Reitzendorf Rockau Rossendorf Schönfeld Schullwitz Weißig and Zaschendorf.

These villages once formed their own independent communities. They merged to create Schönfeld-Weißig in 1994. A short-lived municipality it joined Dresden in 1999. This was a significant event. Transportation changed significantly. In 1908 the Schönfelder Hochlandbahn opened. This railway connected Weißig to Dürrröhrsdorf. A tram route linked Weißig and Bühlau. Today buses including the “Hochland Express” serve the area. These developments enhanced the Schönfeld-Weißig experience for tourists and locals alike. The area’s charm extends beyond transport and landscape. The St Barbara Church in Eschdorf boasts a Herbrig organ. Its impressive organ case was designed by Gottfried Semper.

The Schönfeld-Weißig area is proud of its heritage. This pride shines through in annual events. The Hochlandfest the Schönfeld Christmas market and various village festivals are celebrated here.
