Perched high above the Elbe Valley stands Schone Aussicht a place steeped in history. This isn’t just any viewpoint. It’s a former inn and hotel a witness to over a century and a half of Dresden’s vibrant life. Imagine Friedrich Jork a winemaker who in 1853 obtained a license to serve drinks in his house. This humble beginning laid the foundation for Schone Aussicht’s transformation into a beloved restaurant.

Under Ernst Emil Thomas Jork’s successor Schone Aussicht flourished. Alongside the Loschwitzhöhe it became a popular destination. An 1877 remodel embraced the charm of old German half-timbered style. The establishment boasted an attractive terrace a bowling alley a billiard room and private function rooms. The influx of guests especially after the opening of the Schwebebahn (the funicular) necessitated further renovations around 1900.

Schone Aussicht acquired its current appearance in 1901. The years that followed saw changes in ownership. In 1936 under Anna Maria Kleine hotel rooms and an open-air dance floor were added. Sadly World War II brought destruction. A wooden veranda was lost to bombs in 1945. The main building however survived. It remained in private hands until the 1960s.

From 1970 Schone Aussicht served as a guesthouse for the Otto-Buchwitz-Werke. A comprehensive renovation in 1991 led to its reopening as a restaurant and hotel a year later. A threatened closure in 2010 was averted thanks to a citizen initiative by Loschwitz residents. A complete rebuild followed preserving the historic exterior. Schone Aussicht reopened in December 2012.

Today you stand where generations have enjoyed breathtaking views. You stand at Schone Aussicht where history and hospitality meet. From its humble beginnings as a winemaker’s house to its near demise and triumphant restoration Schone Aussicht continues to offer a unique perspective on Dresden and its captivating past. Take a moment savor the view. Feel the weight of history beneath your feet. This is Schone Aussicht.
