Hidden amongst the trees, on the eastern edge of the Bodanrück peninsula, lies Schloss Seeheim. It stands proudly between the Bodensee-Therme and the Hörnle beach. Schloss Seeheim is a beautiful example of historicist architecture. Its story begins long before its current structure existed. Around 1230, the land belonged to Petershausen Monastery. In 1659, Franz Theodor Lips, a high-ranking official, acquired the area. He likely built the first structure on the site. He later sold it to the Teutonic Order in 1672. They modernized the existing building. Fast forward to 1816. Hortense de Beauharnais, the former Queen of Holland and adopted daughter of Napoleon Bonaparte, briefly owned the property. She was forced to leave Konstanz due to suspicion of her relations with the Bonapartists. She relocated to Arenenberg. Then in 1885, Adolf von Scholz, a finance minister under Bismarck, bought the estate. He commissioned a complete rebuild. The current Schloss Seeheim, designed by architect Georg Peter Hermann Eggert, was built on the old foundations in 1889. This magnificent structure in the style of historicism hosted illustrious guests like Bismarck and Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin. From 1924 to 1969, Schloss Seeheim became the home of the poet Wilhelm von Scholz, son of Adolf von Scholz. Later, it housed the Akademie Schloss Seeheim. Now, parts of the Schloss Seeheim are private residences. It also hosts a café and restaurant, offering stunning views of the lake from its grand terrace.
