In 1350, a grand stately castle first graced the landscape of Hermsdorf, a magnificent structure later known as Schloss Hermsdorf. Schloss Hermsdorf has witnessed centuries of history unfold. It has seen celebrations and devastations, leaving an enduring mark on the region. Christoph von Carlowitz rebuilt Schloss Hermsdorf between 1553 and 1575 after a fire ravaged it in 1561. The castle faced adversity again in 1630, requiring restoration after another fire in 1729. The schloss once boasted an opulent baroque interior. Sadly, it was destroyed during the 20th century. Today, however, Schloss Hermsdorf thrives as a venue for various events. The Schlosspark Hermsdorf, surrounding the castle, offers a delightful retreat in every season. A stroll through the park, between the large Ferris wheel and the castle moat, is especially enchanting during autumn. The colorful foliage and crisp air create a picturesque setting for a leisurely walk. From the castle parking lot, a short 2.5 km walk takes you to the castle and into the Schlosspark. The path leads you past the fish ladder at the castle weir, a fascinating sight for nature enthusiasts. Beyond the park’s boundaries lies the Seifersdorfer Tal, a protected landscape that extends towards Liegau-Augustusbad and further into the Dresdner Heide. This offers a plethora of hiking opportunities for those seeking to explore the region’s natural beauty.
