Chief Apostle Charles Wilkerson Sr. founded this center. He founded Deliverance Evangelistic Centers of Georgia, Inc. in 1965. The headquarters are in Savannah. There are congregations in other cities too. These include Broxton, Adel, Jacksonville, North Carolina and Springfield. Wilkerson served as Chairman of the Board. He directed Religious and Eleemosynary Operations. He served until his death in 2016.

Wilkerson was born in Jacksonville, Florida. He was educated in Douglas, Georgia. He attended Savannah State University. He studied Social Science with a minor in Business Education.

Wilkerson became a minister in 1951. He was at the Church of God in Unity in Quitman, Georgia. He received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity. This was from DELIVERANCE BIBLE INSTITUTE. He also became Lt. Colonel Aide-de-Camp. Georgia Governor Joe Frank Harris appointed him.

Wilkerson authored three books. Two are in the library at Oral Roberts University. He wrote a socio-politico novel as well. Song writing was one of his hobbies. Two of his songs were recorded by M.S.R. Records of Hollywood, California. He received the World of Poetry Golden Poet Award multiple times. He also received the World of Poetry Gold Medal of Honor award.

Apostle Wilkerson and his late wife had six children. His passing in 2016 was met with great sorrow.
