Amidst the vibrant tapestry of Makati City, stands Santa Teresita Parish. It’s a beacon of faith and community. Originally, the area now known as West Rembo, where Santa Teresita Parish resides, was part of Fort Bonifacio. The residents relied on a small chapel dedicated to St. Therese of the Child Jesus. Mass was a rare event, held only every other Sunday. Often, the priest wouldn’t arrive, leaving the townsfolk to seek services elsewhere. Some journeyed to St. Michael’s within the Fort. Others traveled to San Roque in Pateros. Many simply returned home, their spiritual needs unmet. This all changed in July 1992. Santa Teresita Parish was formally established. The Montfort Missionaries, a Catholic religious institute, took on the pastoral care. The parish became a vital part of the Archdiocese of Manila’s Makati District. It served as a training ground for Montfortian seminarians. It also offered a much-needed local place of worship for the community. Over the years, Santa Teresita Parish has seen several priests lead its congregation. From Fr. Jose Luis Sandoval, the first parish priest, to Fr. Ariel Aquino who has served multiple terms, each has left their mark. The church has become more than just a place of worship. It has become a center for community events and celebrations. The annual feast of St. Therese is a particularly vibrant time. The parish comes alive with novenas, processions, and lively festivities. A notable celebration in 2013 featured the unveiling of a stunning stained-glass window. This window depicts St. Therese amidst the faithful, a beautiful tribute to the parish’s patron saint. Santa Teresita Parish continues to serve the spiritual needs of West Rembo. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and community.
