Sankt Annæ Gymnasium is divided into three educational units. There is a primary and lower secondary school for ages 10 to 16. Here all pupils receive thorough singing training. They become members of either The Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir or Copenhagen Girls’ Choir.
The Gymnasium is for older students aged 15 to 19. These students can join the Sankt Annæ Youth Choir. The school also offers a four-year high school degree. This includes an advanced music course. It is called Musikalsk Grundkursus.
Music is central to life here. Sankt Annæ Gymnasium offers various musical activities. These include the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir. Also included is the Copenhagen Girls’ Choir. And the Sankt Annæ Youth Choir. Several bands and orchestras further enrich the musical landscape.
But Sankt Annæ Gymnasium offers more than just music. Students actively engage in democracy. The student council champions their interests. It involves the gymnasium in current social and political issues.
The SAG-SHOW is a highlight of the year. This annual musical is entirely student-run. Students manage the budget. They produce everything themselves. This includes the script. Also, they take care of music, lyrics choreography costumes and scenery. Around 450 of the gymnasium’s 600 students participate. This strengthens bonds across classes.
Sankt Annæ Gymnasium collaborates with other Copenhagen gymnasiums. Together they develop artistic and cultural subjects. These include visual arts. Also included are Danish drama media studies and music. This collaboration is called KULT.
The school has many offerings. It challenges students beyond daily lessons. “Boblerne” is a talent program open to all. It focuses on science language and social science. Students participate in international competitions.
Sankt Annæ Gymnasium is unique in Denmark. It combines Musikalsk Grundkursus with a high school diploma. This four-year program allows students to specialize. They can choose rhythmic classical vocal or sound studies.
