For decades Sandy Creek Park has been a beloved refuge. It offers a respite from the hustle of Austin. People come here to swim to hike or simply enjoy the serenity. Birdwatchers flock here too. Sandy Creek Arm is home to several rare species. The endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler makes its home in the park’s wooded areas. The park’s 92 acres offer a peaceful escape. Visitors can enjoy scenic nature walks along the shoreline.

Did you know that Sandy Creek Park wasn’t always a public park? Leased to Travis County by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) since 1985 the land was transformed into a recreational area. It wasn’t always easy. The construction of the BCRUA water project temporarily suspended camping. The boat ramp was temporarily closed too. Yet the spirit of Sandy Creek Arm persevered.

Today you can still enjoy fishing and picnicking. Barbecue grills and picnic tables are available. Restrooms provide convenient amenities. There’s just one thing to keep in mind. No potable water is available at the park so bring your own. Also be aware of the zebra mussels found along the shoreline. Exercise caution while swimming or engaging in water activities.

Sandy Creek Arm is more than just a pretty place. It is a vital part of the local ecosystem. It’s a testament to the enduring power of nature. It is a place where people connect with nature and with each other. Come. Explore Sandy Creek Arm. Let the beauty and tranquility wash over you. Leave with memories that will last a lifetime.
