San Roque is one of ten barangays in Pateros. In 2020 the population was 4749. This represents just over 7% of Pateros’s total population. San Roque is a vibrant community.

San Roque has seen population changes over the years. In 1990 its population was 4052. By 2020 it had grown to 4749. This shows a steady increase over three decades.

San Roque is located on Luzon Island. Its coordinates are approximately 14.5401 north and 121.0691 east. The elevation is about 7.2 meters above sea level.

San Roque shares borders with other barangays. These neighboring communities contribute to Pateros’s identity. San Roque plays an integral part.

Its history includes the establishment of San Roque Parish. The parish was founded after Pateros split from Pasig in 1815. Fray Andres Vehil and Fr Manuel Pelaes led this division.

The original church suffered damage over the years. An earthquake in 1863 caused significant destruction. It was renovated and completed in 1893. The church was again destroyed during the Philippine Revolution in 1899.

During World War II the church served as a prison. Japanese soldiers killed many civilians inside in December 1944. After the war the community rebuilt the church.

In 2003 San Roque Parish came under the Diocese of Pasig. In 2015 the parish celebrated its 200th anniversary. Rev Fr Roy Rosales led the celebrations.

The church’s architecture was planned by Fray Santos Gomez Marañon. Construction began on July 1 1815. It marked a new chapter for the community.

San Roque stands as a testament to resilience. The people of San Roque have preserved their heritage. Today San Roque continues to thrive.
