Did you know that the San Qing Gong Taoist Cultural Centre is the first orthodox Taoist temple in Singapore? Founded in March 2003, San Qing Gong stands as a beacon of Taoism. It embraces other teachings too.

San Qing Gong houses Southeast Asia’s most magnificent Taoist shrine. This grand shrine consecrates key Taoist deities. The shrine also honors Confucius and Confucian Sages. It truly unifies Taoism and Confucianism.

The four-story building also houses ancestral bone ashes. Memorial tablets are here as well. San Qing Gong shows respect to Taoist teachers. It embraces all teachings. This reflects a spirit of inclusivity.

Let’s step inside the Hall of the Founding Masters. Here, we find Patriarch Lü Dongbin. Born in 638 CE, he was a celebrated Taoist of the Tang dynasty. Known as Chunyang-Zi, he is one of the famous Eight Immortals. He vowed to save people. Many stories tell of his compassion. Temples in Southern China and Southeast Asia honor him.

Next, we have Patriarch Wang Chongyang. He founded the Quan Zhen Sect during the Jin dynasty. Wang advocated integrating Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. He valued spiritual cultivation. He also valued cultivating bodily life. He urged followers to read the Taoist book of Purity and Tranquility.

Then there is Patriarch Qiu Changchun. He became a Taoist at 19. Qiu stressed ascetic life. He encouraged doing good deeds. In 1219 CE, Genghis Khan invited him. Qiu traveled west to meet the Khan. His wisdom stopped the warrior from further conquests.

Consider Perfect Man Sun Simiao. Known as the King of Chinese Medicine, he was a Taoist priest and physician. He treated countless patients. People saw him as a longevity star.

Also honored is Perfect Man Zhang Zhongjin. He was a famous physician of the Eastern Han dynasty. His books are honored as Medical Scriptures. He is referred to as the Sage of Medicine.

We also remember Perfect Man Hua Tuo. He was a physician of the Eastern Han dynasty. He devised exercises based on animal movements. He invented Mafei powder for anesthesia.

Finally, we come to Cihang Zhenren. This deity is common in Buddhist and Taoist temples. Some consider Cihang Zhenren identical to Guan Yin.

San Qing Gong consists of two interconnected pavilions. The main pavilion has three halls. There is the sacred hall of Da-luo. Also, the hall of the three patriarchs. And the hall of Confucius. Hua-si Tang is to the back. It is the first Taoist columbarium in Singapore.

San Qing Gong on Bedok North Avenue 4 opened in March 2003. It is a grand temple. It follows traditional Chinese architectural designs. The temple offers facilities. These include a spacious basement car park.
