Gazing upon San Pablo Apostol Church, one can almost hear the echoes of its vibrant past. This isn’t just a building; it’s a testament to the unwavering spirit of a community. San Pablo Apostol Church stands proudly in Tondo, Manila. It has served as a beacon of hope and faith for decades. Our journey begins in the 1970s with two PIME clergy members, Fr. Bruno Piccolo and Fr. Joseph Vancio. They saw the community’s struggles and were inspired to act. A pivotal moment came in 1970. Pope Paul VI visited Tondo and gifted Fr. Piccolo a ciborium. This symbolic gesture fueled their mission to establish a place of worship. That same December, a bungalow on Emilio Jacinto Street became the foundation for San Pablo Apostol Church. The church’s growth continued. In 1971, Fr. Joseph traveled to Rome to advocate for the PIME clergy in the Philippines. Meanwhile, Fr. Adrian Cadei arrived to assist. Fr. Joseph, before leaving, collaborated with the Canossian Philippine delegation to assign sisters to Magville. He also secured the chapel’s construction plans and sought funding in America and Italy. By the end of 1971, Fr. Luigi Cocquio joined the team after completing Filipino language studies. Fr. Joseph also returned from Rome. In 1972, a joyous moment arrived. The Apostolic Nuncio consecrated the chapel at Magsaysay Village. Fr. Piccolo led the charge as the first parish priest. He was supported by Fr. Cadei, Fr. Joseph, and Fr. Cocquio. Fr. Albert Booms also joined from the US. San Pablo Apostol Church wasn’t just a place for worship. It evolved into a hub of activity, offering various ministries and services to its parishioners. From worship services to social assistance programs, the church aimed to meet the spiritual and practical needs of the community. San Pablo Apostol Church also holds a rich history of leadership, with dedicated parish priests guiding its development and growth throughout the years. The church’s patron saint, St. Paul, is a fitting symbol of its mission. Known for his tireless evangelism, St. Paul’s legacy resonates with the church’s commitment to serving the community. San Pablo Apostol Church continues to stand as a testament to the enduring power of faith, community, and service. It is a place where history whispers and hope shines brightly.
