What’s in a name? Well, if you’re talking about San José de Miranda, it’s a tale of faith, local pride, and a little bit of serendipity. You see, this town, nestled in the heart of Santander Department, wasn’t always called San José de Miranda. Its story began on the 8th of September, 1915, a date forever etched in its history as its founding day. The story goes that the founding festivities began in March, a time dedicated to San José. Naturally, the town’s founders chose him as their patron saint and considered naming the town San José de Suárez in honor of the devoutly Catholic president, Marco Fidel Suárez. However, when the name was presented to the townspeople, they erupted in a chorus of “Miranda, Miranda”. The energy was electric! The priest, a man named Isidoro Miranda Morantes, was moved by his community’s passion and agreed to lend his name to the town. And so, San José de Miranda was born – a testament to the enduring spirit of its people and the power of a shared identity.
