Gazing upon San Isidro Parish Church in Pasay City a question arises: How did this church become a beacon of faith in this community? In 1951 San Isidro Parish Church held services in a temporary building on Dominga Street. Construction of a permanent structure started. Msgr. Emmanuel Magtanong Cruz oversaw its full realization.

San Isidro Parish territory once belonged to Sta. Clara de Montefalco. It became a separate parish on September 21 1951. Msgr. Emmanuel Magtanong Cruz became its first Parish Priest. He served from 1951 to 1976. Construction on the present church building began in 1961. Parishioners and benefactors generously contributed to the effort.

The altar was consecrated on September 15 1968. Rufino J. Cardinal Santos officiated the ceremony. The altar features a backdrop of the crucifixion. It is visible from inside the church. Fr. Lari Abaco later improved the altar’s background.

Several priests have served San Isidro Parish Church. Msgr. Clemente Lopez served from 1976 to 1995. Rev. Fr. Francisco M. Ungria Jr. followed from 1995 to 2000. Rev. Fr. Lazaro B. Abaco served from November 1 2000 to April 26 2005. Msgr. Severino O. Lorica assumed the role on April 29 2005. He had previously been a Parochial Vicar there from 1964 to 1966.

In August 2006 San Isidro Parish Church received a fresh exterior repaint. The back wall of the church was also painted. A “Historical Marker” stands at the Multi-Purpose Building. It was blessed on September 24 2006. This coincided with the 55th Founding Anniversary and the 2nd Parish Week observance.

The marker commemorates the church’s history. It acknowledges the efforts of Msgr. Cruz. It also recognizes the generous support of the parishioners and benefactors. They witnessed the parish’s growth from its beginnings.

San Isidro Labrador’s story is closely entwined with Pasay City’s evolution. From humble beginnings in a temporary structure this church stands as a testament to faith community and enduring spirit. It has undergone many changes. San Isidro Parish Church remains a vibrant center for worship. It also serves as a focal point for community engagement in Pasay City.
