What began as two churches has become the Saintsville Sanctuary Church Of God In Christ. Today we stand before a testament to faith and unity. Saintsville’s story is deeply rooted in Dallas history. It started with Wheatley Church Of God In Christ and Haynes Chapel Church Of God In Christ. Both were located in the Southern Sector of Dallas.
Elder Thomas Tolbert founded Wheatley COGIC in the early 1900s. It was located in the Wheatley Edition. After Elder Tolbert’s death, Elder Joe S. Jackson took over as pastor. Haynes Chapel Church Of God In Christ also played a vital role.
In 1948, Superintendent F.L. Haynes oversaw the entire state of Texas. Later Texas divided into four areas. In 1954, Bishop F.L. Haynes became leader of Texas Northeast. In 1973, the state bought property on Marsalis Ave. It would serve as the State Headquarters. Bishop Haynes named it “Saintsville”, the “Home of the Saints”.
After Bishop F.L. Haynes passed in 1977, Bishop J.O. Patterson, Sr. stepped in. He served as interim State Bishop for Texas Northeast from 1977-1978.
A new chapter began in 1979. Pastor J. Neaul Haynes became Bishop of Texas Northeast. He united Wheatley and Haynes Chapel churches. He moved both congregations to Saintsville Sanctuary Church Of God In Christ creating one family.
Bishop J. Neaul Haynes passed away March 9, 2015. Bishop Charles E. Blake appointed Superintendent J.E. Hornsby as Pastor of Saintsville. Bishop Hornsby continues to lead Saintsville Sanctuary Church Of God In Christ.
Saintsville isn’t just a church. It’s a vibrant community. It offers ministries. Saintsville aims “to reach people and build lives”. The church extends an invitation to weekday and weekend services.
Saintsville has a rich legacy. It is based on faith. The core belief includes the Bible as the infallible Word of God. It includes the need of regeneration by the Holy Ghost for salvation. They believe in one God in three persons and Christ’s healing power. They also believe in the rapture and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. The church emphasizes holy living. It believes in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit.
Saintsville embodies faith, unity, and community service. It welcomes all. It continues to build lives in Dallas.
