How is it possible for a church to have a history spanning 115 years but only exist at its current location for 50? That’s the story of Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church. This beautiful church, with its gleaming gold dome, has been a landmark in Palos Hills for half a century. But its roots go back much further, to the heart of Chicago. In 1909, a group of Greek immigrants, longing for a spiritual home, founded Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church on 61st Street and Michigan Avenue. They built a community, fostered their faith, and even established the Koraes Elementary School in 1910, the second oldest Greek Orthodox day school in the country. But like many communities in Chicago, they moved and rebuilt, their faith unwavering, first in 1948 to South Shore and finally, in 1972, to Palos Hills. Imagine the dedication it took to relocate and rebuild not once, but twice, always ensuring their cherished school moved with them. Today, Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church is more than just a place of worship. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of community, a vibrant hub of cultural celebration. It’s a reminder that faith, like the shimmering gold of its dome, can endure through time and change.
