Founded in 1961 Saint Viator High School stands proudly. It’s a testament to the vision of Father Louis Querbes. He envisioned a college-preparatory school for students in Chicago’s northwest suburbs. The school opened its doors to a small group of freshmen and sophomores. Graduating its first class in 1965.

Saint Viator’s early years weren’t without their challenges. Declining enrollment in 1987 threatened the school’s future. A merger with Sacred Heart of Mary High School saved the day. The merger brought co-education to Saint Viator. Opening a new chapter in its history. The school absorbed Sacred Heart’s faculty staff and students. This ensured a thriving student body for years to come.

The original school building remained largely unchanged. The arrival of female students prompted some much-needed renovations. A girls’ locker room was added. The chapel science labs and boys’ locker room also underwent upgrades.

The early 2000s saw major improvements. A multipurpose athletic addition was constructed. The Boler Center was dedicated in 2005. New academic and fine arts facilities followed in the next decade. The Marie Gallagher Academic Commons opened in 2014. Fr. Louis Querbes Hall and new fine arts facilities opened in 2015. Classroom renovations were completed in 2022. Even the student gathering area or “fishbowl” got a makeover. It now includes a coffee and pastry stand.

Saint Viator is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a place known for its rigorous academics. The school boasts a strong commitment to community service. Students are required to complete 100 hours of community service before graduating. This commitment reflects the Viatorian values. Students are educated as whole people. The school has been named a Blue Ribbon School not once but three times. This is a remarkable achievement.

The school also takes pride in its diverse extracurricular activities. From academic societies to performing ensembles and athletics. Students have many opportunities to excel. Saint Viator has produced many notable alumni. They’ve excelled in various fields from professional sports to journalism to the entertainment industry.

Saint Viator High School’s story is one of perseverance growth and unwavering commitment to its students. It’s a place where students are challenged to reach their full potential. A place where the spirit of St. Viator continues to inspire students teachers and the community.
