The peaceful serenity here belies a rich history. Welcome to Saint Pauls The Parish of Milford. This quiet spot wasn’t always so tranquil.

This isn’t the original Saint Pauls. The first church stood kilometers away near Kitchener and Muritai Roads. It was aptly named Saint Pauls-by-the-sea. Its proximity to the sea is a forgotten detail. This new Saint Pauls was built in 1955. It replaced the old church. The old church was deemed too small and poorly located.

Growth in Milford and Forrest Hill demanded a larger church. The original site lacked space for expansion. The decision to relocate was also influenced by Saint Peter’s in Takapuna. The old church was too close to Saint Peter’s.

Interestingly the land here originally held a small hall. Its origins remain a mystery. In 1947 this hall was moved. It found a new home at 59 Seaview Road in Castor Bay. There it became All Hallows a church and hall. It received a major extension in 1952.

The current Saint Pauls complex is modern. It includes a church and a hall. A large foyer connects the two buildings. Several smaller structures are attached to the rear of the hall. The design is thoughtful. Access for wheelchair users is ensured by a specially built ramp. A special needs toilet is also available.

The current Saint Pauls building was dedicated in 1979. It is connected to the hall by a large foyer. A well-equipped kitchen and servery are adjacent to the foyer and hall. They are perfect for large gatherings. Saint Pauls is more than a church. It serves as a hub for the Milford Forrest Hill and Castor Bay communities. It offers a sanctuary of peace amidst the bustle of city life. It’s a place of quiet reflection and spiritual growth. A place where history and community intertwine. A testament to the enduring faith of its people.
