Picture this a vibrant community blossoming amidst Quezon City’s bustling streets. This is the story of Saint Paul the Apostle Parish Church a testament to faith and resilience. Founded on December 21 1979 this church wasn’t built overnight. It started humbly as a quasi-parish in 1978. Laymen spearheaded the initial efforts assisted by the Religious of the Virgin Mary RVM nuns from St Mary’s College. Masses were initially held in the college auditorium. A temporary chapel in the Dionisio Compound on Scout Magbanua provided for other liturgical needs.
The Sacred Heart Parish in Kamuning and later the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart MSC priests provided pastoral care. This early period shows the collaborative spirit that defined Saint Paul the Apostle Parish Church from its very beginnings. The community’s desire for their own church was strong.
Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin officially established the parish on September 21 1979. The MSC fathers continued their service until April 16 1980 when Msgr Celso Ditan became the first parish priest. His installation was on April 27 1980 a pivotal moment in the church’s history. The Parish Pastoral Council played a vital role securing land for the church in August 1983.
Finally on July 10 1986 the church was solemnly blessed and dedicated to Saint Paul the Apostle. This marked the culmination of years of prayer dedication and community effort. The Saint Paul the Apostle Parish Church stands as a symbol of unwavering faith. It is a place where countless lives have been touched by God’s grace. The church’s modernist architecture stands in contrast to the classical style of many older churches in the Philippines. The parish has largely retained its original design.
This simple elegant structure is a visual reflection of the community’s unpretentious devotion. The church building itself is a marvel of late 20th-century Philippine architecture. The only noticeable additions are a statue of St Paul a golden Lamb of God and a mural depicting Jesus at the River Jordan. Despite plans for expansion the church remains a stunning example of modernist design. Today the Saint Paul the Apostle Parish Church continues to be a vibrant hub of spiritual life in Quezon City. It’s a place of worship community gathering and enduring faith. It’s a living testament to the power of collective effort. This quiet church on Mother Ignacia Avenue stands as a symbol of faith and perseverance a testament to the strength of the community.
