You see it standing tall and proud, just across the street – Saint Mary of the Angels School. One of the oldest Polish parishes in Chicago! It’s a testament to the vibrant Polish community that built this city. The building was designed in the Renaissance style by Henry J. Schlacks in 1899, and it’s a magnificent example of Polish Cathedral architecture. The school boasts a gymnasium and an auditorium, and even a convent. Do you know that the sisters here were part of the Congregation of the Resurrection? They opened the school in 1900 with 425 students. Just imagine the buzz here back then! The school has seen generations of Polish families learn and grow. Today, it is still a focal point of the community, a place where faith, education, and tradition come together.
