In August 2025, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced the merging of St. Beatrice and St. Maria Goretti churches. This decision, effective October 1st of the same year, aimed to create a stronger, more sustainable parish. The merger followed discussions within the Archdiocese, acknowledging factors such as financial difficulties, declining Mass attendance, and the closure of St. Maria Goretti School earlier that year. The school, struggling with dwindling enrollment despite efforts to reach targets, closed its doors in June 2025. This event undoubtedly impacted the community and likely played a role in the decision to unify the parishes. Now, under the leadership of Rev. Robert Schultz, the combined parish strives for a vibrant future. The parishioners, given the opportunity to suggest a new name for the unified church, actively participate in shaping its identity. Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church, in its new form, represents more than just the merging of two congregations. It embodies the spirit of adaptation and the enduring power of faith within the Schiller Park community. It serves as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, unity and hope can prevail.
