Deacon Ned Norman, a man of vision, proposed the name that has resonated through the decades: Saint Luke’s Missionary Baptist Church. They found their first home at 3663 S. Indiana Avenue. However, fate, it seemed, had other plans. The fire in 1970 destroyed their house of worship. Undeterred, the congregation held services at the A.R. Leak Colonial House while searching for a new home. This resilient spirit led them to 7262 S. Coles Ave. The church you see today rose from the ashes of that fire, a testament to the unwavering faith of its congregation.
