Is this where faith found its home? Right here at Saint Leonard’s Catholic Church. The very heart of Berwyn’s vibrant Catholic community. This church stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of faith. It was born from the needs of a burgeoning community in the early 20th century. As South Berwyn blossomed with the arrival of Bohemian and Polish families, the Archbishop recognized the need for a local place of worship. Thus, Saint Leonard’s Mission took root in 1918. The community rallied around their faith. They funded the construction of a combined church and school. It was dedicated in 1924, marking a pivotal moment in Saint Leonard’s journey. But Saint Leonard’s story doesn’t end there. This parish was destined for more. They built a new school, followed by a rectory and then a grand church in the 1950s. This English Gothic masterpiece, completed in 1951, still stands today. It embodies the dedication and sacrifice of generations past. Saint Leonard’s Church isn’t just bricks and mortar. It’s a beacon of hope. It’s a living testament to the power of faith to unite a community and inspire generations. As we stand here, let’s take a moment to appreciate the legacy we are witnessing. It’s the enduring spirit of Saint Leonard’s, a place where faith continues to find its home.
