The cornerstone whispers secrets. This is Saint Isidore Roman Catholic Church. Right here in Blue Island Illinois it stands a testament to faith and community.

Established in 1957 Father Walter Schweihofer laid the foundation for this vibrant parish. Its early years saw the opening of an elementary school in 1959 run by the Adrian Dominican Sisters. Imagine the bustling hallways filled with children’s laughter. That school sadly closed in 1971 due to financial challenges. The building however found new life later becoming a social hall.

The current church building wasn’t always here. A dedication ceremony took place in 1967 for an earlier structure. But by 1986 the parish had outgrown its space. A new larger church was needed. Construction began in 1987 culminating in the dedication of the present building in 1988. This ambitious project reflects the growing congregation’s unwavering commitment.

Over the years Saint Isidore Roman Catholic Church hasn’t just grown physically. It also experienced a period of significant growth and division. Several new parishes were formed from its original community. St John & Paul St John Vianney St Therese of Lisieux and St Maximillian Kolbe each spun off from Saint Isidore. Each carrying with it a piece of the original parish’s heart and spirit.

Further renovations and expansions took place between 1998 and 2005. This “Building for the Future” project secured the church’s position for generations to come. Bishop Earl Boyea blessed the newly renovated facility in 2005 a significant milestone in the church’s history. The Saint Isidore Roman Catholic Church stands as a beacon of hope a symbol of enduring faith in the heart of Blue Island. A place where community and spirituality continue to thrive.
