Little did those early students know, their classrooms would evolve into the thriving high school we see today. Saint Francis de Sales High School officially became a four-year high school in 1937. By the 1950s, the school needed room to grow. A new building, dedicated in 1958, rose to meet the challenge. Did you know this very structure we stand before was designed by the renowned modernist architects Belli & Belli? Look closely. You can see their signature in the curved lines of the library facade and the large windows designed to capture the Lake Michigan breeze. Those design elements aren’t just aesthetic. Saint Francis de Sales High School adheres to a rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for college and beyond. Four years of English and Theology. Two years of History and Foreign Language. Seven combined credits of Math and Science. That’s the foundation upon which future Pioneers build their dreams. And speaking of Pioneers, did you know that’s the school’s mascot? The men’s teams are the Pioneers. The women’s teams, the Lady Pioneers. From the basketball court to the soccer field, the Pioneer spirit of competition and camaraderie thrives. Saint Francis de Sales High School has also nurtured some remarkable alumni. Eric Anderson, who played for the New York Knicks. Mike Sullivan, a former NFL lineman. Tracy Wilson, a safety who once roamed these halls as the Pioneers’ quarterback.
