Whispers of faith echo through the years here at Saint Francis De Sales. This Catholic church, nestled in Oak Park, has been a cornerstone of the community for over fifty years. Saint Francis De Sales Parish wasn’t built overnight. It arose from the dedication and hard work of faithful men and women. They envisioned a vibrant parish, a place of worship, and a strong commitment to Catholic education. Their vision materialized into this beautiful church you see before you. Saint Francis De Sales Parish is more than just bricks and mortar. It strives to embody the wisdom of its patron saint, Saint Francis de Sales. He advised, “Have patience with all things, but first with yourself.” He reminded us, “Never confuse your mistakes with your value as a human being.” These words resonate within the church walls and inspire the community to this day. The parish school, also named after Saint Francis de Sales, opened in 1961, initially operating in temporary “tin” classrooms. These humble beginnings underscore the community’s unwavering commitment to education. The school faced adversity in 1994 when a fire tragically destroyed four classrooms and the hall. Remarkably, not a single family left the school community. Their resilience is a testament to the strength and unity fostered within Saint Francis De Sales. The parish continues its mission, nurturing the spiritual, pastoral, educational, and social needs of Oak Park. It carries forward the legacy of its founders and the wisdom of its patron saint, providing a sanctuary for faith and community.
