How about a story of faith and community here at St. Fabian Church? This isn’t just a building. It’s a spiritual home for many.

St. Fabian Parish has stood strong since 1967. It strives to embody the spirit of Vatican II. The parish welcomes everyone. It embraces all ages, races, genders, lifestyles, and ethnic backgrounds. All are welcome here, even non-Christian brothers and sisters.

The story of St. Fabian himself is quite interesting. He was a lay person, not deeply involved in church life. But in 236 AD, something remarkable happened. A dove landed on his shoulder during the election of a new pope. People saw this as a sign from the Holy Spirit. Thus, Fabian became Pope.

He served for 15 years. He stood against Emperor Decius. St. Fabian was eventually martyred in 250 AD. A stone slab in the Cemetery of St. Calixtus, which he helped restore, still exists.

Here at St. Fabian Church, the community is vibrant. You can attend Mass in English or Polish. The church offers various services. Confessions are heard on Saturdays and the first Friday of each month.

Notably, St. Fabian is located in Bridgeview, Illinois. It is a southwest suburb of Chicago. To find your way here, take I-294. Exit at 95th Street and head east. Then, take Harlem Avenue north to 83rd Street. Turn west and go two blocks to Oketo Avenue. The rectory is at 8300 S. Thomas Ave. It is across from the church parking lot.

St. Fabian is also home to a Polish School. It fosters Polish language, tradition, and culture. It caters to younger generations born in the USA. The school’s program includes preschool, elementary, and high school levels. Classes take place on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

The Polish School is accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education. Graduates may receive credits for their Polish language skills. Students learn to write and read in Polish. They also learn about national traditions and cultural aspects.

The school integrates faith into its activities. Through play, song, prayer, and learning, children explore faith. They also discover Polish traditions. Second-graders prepare for the Sacrament of Penance and Eucharist. Eighth-graders prepare for Confirmation.

The school teaches acting and Polish songs. It also stages religious hymns. Each year, the school organizes a First Grader Induction. The “Singing Angels” choir performs regularly. The school also hosts Christmas plays and celebrations. These include St. Nicholas Day, a carnival ball, and an Easter celebration. It celebrates Polish Independence Day. The school participates in the 3rd of May Parade.

The Polish School enriches the parish. It bridges Polish and American cultures. St. Fabian Church welcomes you to experience its faith and community.
