What secrets lie hidden beneath the clamor and chaos of Mumbai’s urban sprawl? Right here, in the heart of Andheri East, lies Sahar Village. A place where the echoes of history whisper through the modern facades. Sahar Village is one of the oldest settlements of East Indians on Salsette Island. Imagine a time when the air was filled with the scent of salt marshes and not diesel fumes, when the rhythmic chug of the Salsette–Trombay Railway, which had a station right here in Sahar Village, was the loudest sound. That railway line closed in 1934. But its memory lingers, a phantom echo in the stories passed down through generations. The Sahar Village you see today bears little resemblance to its past. The opening of the Sahar International Terminal in the 1980s transformed this once-sleepy village into a bustling hub. The area boomed with urban development. Even the luxurious Leela Group chose this place to open its first hotel in 1988. The old world charm might be fading, but Sahar Village, in its own unique way, continues to tell its tale – a story of resilience and adaptation, whispering its secrets to those who pause and listen.
